Austin has no problem getting up for work, but on check up day?….he just can't seem to get up! He takes his anxiety medication…the only time he uses it is for doctors appointments...Then we get 3 kids off to school….Josh is missing…Kirsten loves to ride her scooter home.
We always have to remember a throw up bag, psychologically Austin feels nervous and nauseated each time we go. The Doctor said this is normal, that his mind remembers to make himself nauseous. Weird, but he said it always happens to younger cancer patients, because the brain is quicker to learn…go figure...
It takes about 20-25 minutes on the freeway to get there from our house. This is our exit!
Now we make the walk into the building...
Here Austin is on the elevator...
Signing in….
Waiting in the waiting room...
Austin getting weighed…He lost over 50 pounds during chemo last fall and was having a hard time gaining it back…he drinks shakes to put weight on him now…he still hasn't gained very much…but he's inching back up!
Next they take his vitals, blood pressure and heart rate…it is normal now about 60 to 70 beats per minute. I like this better than the 30 to 40 beats per minute it used to be!
This is the machine they use to test the blood after they draw it…
After they take his vitals, he moves into the chemo room where all the patients
are and he waits for a Nurse to come draw his blood. There are about 30 chairs
in this room...
He always wears the wrong shirt…it's harder to access his port. Button down shirts are better I think…but I believe he doesn't like them as much! Not as comfy...
Here is the port in his chest…..I'll do another blog to show how they access it when I have more time! Chow for now!
